A few words about me
Dareka: Electronic Music And Sound Design
Me venturing the arts of sound design and creating electronic music has come a long way. Having originally learned and exercised graphic design, I finally gave in to the commands of my inner voice. Since being a teenager in the ’90s, I became fascinated with listening to music and experiencing the power of sounds. To me Hip Hop played the main stage. Technically it was the Akai MPC 2000 that got my attention (and my money). A tool capable of doing so much of a music production on its own. At the same time, the upcoming of the PC – as a music production environment – gave so much power in the hands of the casual user. This world got me hooked. But with no musical background and nobody around me having ties into that domain, I saw no way of making a living with what I liked so much. So I pursued my passion as a hobby. Producing some Hip Hop, noodling around with whatever gear I could afford and keeping track of the developments in the music industry.
Fast forwarding to around 2022: following right in the footsteps of the very stupid event of the Corona pandemic, I got hit by some very large rocks, thrown by fate right into my private life. I will not depict the details of it here, at least for now. But it made me connect to music and sound creation even stronger. Although it didn’t heal as much as I liked it to, it helped me getting along a lot. At the same time I realized – if I calculated carefully – I’d be able to sustain a financially independent life, for a pretty long time. It felt like fate was holding me at gunpoint, to make a live changing decision: proceed with what I knew worked well to NOT let me do what I really liked to do. OR: trying to get to where I really wanted to be in the first place. Doing sound design, making music. Adventurous exploration of the possibilities in that regard. Discovering work practices I have not known yet. Combining all this to forge soundscapes being the sum of all the efforts. Truely living in the creative moment. And eventually publishing whatever springs off of that effort.
That’s what all this is about for me.
My Cosy Studio
Taking up one small room in my apartment, it’s neither the fanciest nor the best equiped studio out there. But it very well suits my needs. And it’s always there, so inspiration may strike whenever it wants to.
And it has enough room to host all my beloved devices for sound creation. Including a storage shelf and some containers – capable of holding a few more synths and samplers – to spice up the recipies, when needed.
